Greenfield/Northwestern ends S-V/Waltonville’s perfect season

SESSER — Greenfield/Northwestern exploded for 28 second points on the way to a 44-16 win at Sesser-Valier/Waltonville in the 1A quarterfinal.

SVW struck first on Colt Packer’s keeper on fourth and goal. The Red Devils added the 2-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead.

The Tigers then rattled off 22 straight points. Kohen Vetter scored the first his three rushing touchdowns, then quarterback Dylan Pembrook threw a touchdown and ran in another for a 22-8 lead.

Dez Malone returned a kickoff 75 yards for a score as the Red Devils closed within 22-16, but Caleb Albracht matched it with his own 75-yard touchdown return on the ensuing kickoff to push the Tigers’ lead back to 12.

Vetter scored in the final minute of the half, giving Greenfield/NW a 36-16 lead at the half. Vetter’s fourth quarter TD was the only score of the second half.

The Red Devils finished their season 11-1, equalling the best record in school history. The Tigers improve to 12-0 and will now visit 12-0 Camp Point Central with the winner headed to the 1A State Championship game.
