HARRISBURG — AJ Downey scored on a two-out error to give the Galatia/Thompsonville Bearcats a 3-2 win in nine innings over Hardin County, clinching the Greater Egyptian Conference baseball championship.
The win ended three years of frustrations for the Bearcats’ seniors, who finally found a way to get by the Cougars to win take the conference title.
Galatia/Thompsonville starter Eli Hankins allowed two runs while striking out 10 over six innings, but Hankins did not figure into the decision. Hunter Gaither pitched three scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win.
Hardin County starter Bryden Banks allowed two runs over six and two-thirds, striking out eight before giving way to Landon Fricker. Fricker pitched two innings, allowing an unearned run and took a tough luck loss.
