WOODLAWN — One of the area’s top returning boys basketball players will be sporting a different uniform next year.
Kyle Cooper has transferred from Waltonville to rival Woodlawn, where he will play for his brother, Luke, who is the head coach and uncle, Rob Flanagan, who will be a volunteer assistant coach. Flanagan won 598 games in 35 years as a head coach at Cisne, Carterville, and Olney.
Cooper was an All-South and 2nd team IBCA All-State selection after averaging 17.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game last year as a junior helping the Spartans go 28-5 and win a regional championship.
Cooper joins a Cardinals squad that was 19-13 last year with a roster that had only one senior and two juniors. Woodlawn was led by sophomore Luke McKay, who was also an All-South selection.
