Pawnee rallies to beat Waltonville/Sesser-Valier for trip to State

CARBONDALE — The Pawnee Indians earned a trip to the 1A Baseball State Semifinals by rallying past Waltonville/Sesser-Valier 5-4 to win the SIU 1A Supersectional.

The Spartans jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings, but the Indians picked single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings before scoring two in the seventh to take the lead then holding on for a 5-4 win.

Pawnee will face Father McGivney (37-3) at 1:00 Friday in Champaign in the second semifinal. Lexington (19-11) will take on Ottawa Marquette (33-3) in the first semifinal.

WSV finishes its season at 18-6.
