VIENNA — Senior Orion Hoak scored four goals to lead Vienna/Goreville to a season-opening 5-0 win over visiting Anna-Jonesboro/Cobden.
Hoak’s two goals plus an own goal by the Wildcats gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead at the half. Hoak then added two second half goals for the final margin of victory.
Sophomore keeper Chase Helm made nine saves including a couple of dandies in the second half to preserve the shutout.
The Wildcats had the misfortune of hitting the crossbar twice and the post on a shot deflected by Helm.
Anna-Jonesboro/Cobden (0-1) will visit Centralia Wednesday, while Vienna/Goreville (1-0) will hit the road as well to meet Harrisburg Thursday.
