CHRISTOPHER — The Christopher/Zeigler-Royalton/Elverado Bearcats rallied in the second half to beat Eldorado 35-30, snapping a 20-game losing streak in Mike Rude’s debut as the CZRE head coach.

The Eagles opened the game with a 7:15 touchdown drive capped by Kaiden Henson’s one-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion failed, so Eldorado led 6-0.

The Bearcats needed just 16 seconds to respond as Landen Butler returned the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. The extra point gave CZRE a 7-6 lead.

The teams continued to trade touchdowns and went into halftime tied 22-22.

Eldorado grabbed a 30-22 lead in the third, but the Bearcats scored twice and came up with a key defensive stand late to pick up their first win since October 7, 2022.

Next up for CZRE will be a visit to Black Diamond power Johnston City Friday, while Eldorado will host Edwards County Saturday night in the Eagles’ home opener.
