Following a completely dominant 69-0 season opener against the Herrin Tigers, the Benton Rangers have been voted the #1 team in Little Egypt Football. The Rangers led the charge of five preseason teams rising up 5 spots each in this week’s poll.
The Carterville Lions won over preseason #1 Marion 35-34 to climb to the #2 spot.
Centralia sophomore quarterback Archie Goeway’s 4 TD performance was enough to turn heads across the region in their 42-0 win over Salem. That victory garnered four first-place votes, the second-most this week.
Du Quoin’s big 48-19 win over Mt. Carmel was enough to cement them as the #4 team in Little Egypt.
Carbondale’s 21-13 win at Murphysboro proved to enough voters that they aren’t just a Top 10 team but also a Top 5 team, earning them the #5 ranking.
Johnston City and Nashville were teams hampered by the Top 5’s success. Johnston City drops a spot in the rankings to #6, despite a 46-8 win over Carmi-White County and Nashville slid four spots to #7 despite their 28-21 win over Carlyle.
Harrisburg takes Mt. Vernon’s (preseason #4) spot in the Top 10, making their debut in this year’s poll at #10 following their 31-13 win over Anna-Jonesboro.
