FLORA — The Flora Wolves improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 20-14 win over Carmi-White County in a rare Thursday night varsity game.

The teams didn’t find out until Tuesday that there was a conflict with the officials’ schedule, leading to moving the game up a day.

The Wolves overcame numerous penalties and a couple of turnovers, using big plays and a big defensive stand late to seal it.

Gage Dugan’s 41-yard touchdown run put Flora on top in the first quarter. Carmi answered with 14 straight points including a Jazz Duckworth 1-yard touchdown run and Cole Evans’ 63-yard fumble return touchdown.

Kehlin Crawford answered Evans’ TD immediately, returning the ensuing kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown. It was 14-14 at the half.

Kormik Massey’s 2-yard touchdown put the Wolves back on top in the third quarter, and that turned out to be all for the scoring.

With the Bulldogs threatening to tie or potentially win the game in the final seconds, Dugan delivered an interception at the five yard line with 14 seconds left to seal Flora’s win.

The Wolves will travel to CZRE next week, while Carmi-White County (0-2) will host Hamilton County.
