Carterville scores late to beat Nashville

CARTERVILLE — The Carterville Lions improved to 2-0 on the young season with their second straight nail-biting win at home, this time beating Nashville 21-14.

After holding off Marion 35-34 to win their season opener, the Lions found themselves tied late in the fourth quarter with the visiting Hornets driving for the go ahead score. Carterville recovered a fumble in the endzone, then proceeded to march down with the field, with Johnny Miller punching in the game winning touchdown from five yards out with 30.4 seconds to play.

The Lions will hit the road for the first time next week when they will visit Charleston. The Hornets will welcome Wescln for their home opener.
