MARION — After dropping a heartbreaker last week in the season opener at Carterville, the Marion Wildcats rebounded nicely with a 62-13 win over Granite City.
Senior quarterback Callahan Roper was nearly perfect, finishing 18-20 for 257 yards and three touchdowns. All three went to Sam Adkins, who hauled in seven pass for 133 yards on the night. Adkins also added a 2-point conversion and was 5-6 kicking extra points.
Marion (1-1) will back at Wildcat Stadium next Friday night to host Mt. Vernon in the Wildcats’ South Seven opener. The Rams opened conference play with a thrilling 52-51 win at Carbondale.
