Headed in to Week 4 of the IHSA Football season, Little Egypt is rocking with some marquee matchups, including a #1 vs #2 game to open SIRR Mississippi Division action.
The Benton Rangers continued to steamroll past their opponents, defeating #9 Murphysboro in Week 3 42-7. The Red Devils got the first score on the staunch Rangers defense this season but it wasn’t enough to stay in the rankings.
The Du Quoin Indians continue their dominant start to the season with a 47-6 win over the struggling Herrin Tigers.
#1 Benton hosts #2 Du Quoin Friday night at Tabor Field.
The only other team in the area receiving a first place vote are the #3 Carterville Lions who travelled to Charleston and stomped the Trojans 49-13.
#4 Johnston City continued to put the rest of the Black Diamond in a blender with a 58-14 win over Edwards County
The Marion Wildcats rejoined the top 5 at #5 following a 56-21 victory over Mt. Vernon (#7 last week).
The Nashville Hornets won an all-gas and no-brakes style of game over Wesclin in Week 3 62-41 to jump up two spots to #6.
Centralia took a tumble to #7, down four spaces, after a 45-21 loss to Waterloo.
There is a trio of newcomers to the poll this week, two of which are 3-0.
West Frankfort, Fairfield, and Chester all pop up in the Top 10 this week. Frankfort impressed with a come-from-behind win over Chester 33-29 to debut at #8. Chester’s loss still impressed enough of Southern Illinois to earn the #10 spot.
Fairfield doubled up Eldorado 24-12 to earn the #9 spot.
