Here are the nominees for September 8-13:
Michael Barner, Fairfield: The junior rushed for 196 yards and scored 2 touchdowns in the Mules’ 24-12 win over Fairfield.
Trey Clark, Salem: The junior rushed for 222 yards and scored a touchdown in the Wildcats’ 23-13 win over Mattoon.
Caiden Cook, Du Quoin: The junior finished 2nd out of 689 runners in the boys 1A race at the First to the Finish Invitational in Peoria.
Merryn Elliott, Carterville: The sophomore earned medalist honors at a pair of tri-matches carding a 38 and a 40.
Alex Hall, Massac Co.: The senior scored 7 goals to help the Patriots go 2-0-1 for the week. Hall recorded hat tricks in wins over Carterville/Herrin and Robinson.
Hazel Helmers, Trico: The junior recorded 35 kills, 28 blocks, 6 aces, and 15 digs helping the Pioneers go 5-2 for the week. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Red Bud Tournament.
Brantley Kozuszek, Nashville: The freshman returned a kickoff 74 yards for a touchdown, returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown, and caught 5 passes for 59 yards with 2 more TDs in the Hornets’ 62-41 win over Wesclin. He also rushed 3 times for 15 yards.
Ella Kreuter, Vienna: THe senior recorded 32 kills, 4 blocks, 5 aces and 19 digs helping the Lady Eagles go 6-0 for the week including winning the championship of the Carrier Mills/Stonefort Tournament.
Tyler McConnell, Pinckneyville: The junior caught 9 passes for 143 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Panthers’ 41-27 loss to Dupo.
Lucas Parker, West Frankfort: The junior completed 14 of 21 passing for 189 yards and rushed for 43 yards and 4 touchdowns including the game winner in the final minute of the Redbirds’ 33-29 win over Chester. He also sealed the victory with an interception on defense.
Callahan Roper, Marion: The senior completed 18 of 28 passing for 320 yards and 5 touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 56-21 win over Mt. Vernon. He became only the 2nd player in school history to surpass 4000 career passing yards.
Caroline Simmons, Carmi-White County: The senior recorded 121 kills, 10 aces, and 61 digs helping the Lady Bulldogs go 9-1 for the week, including winning the silver bracket at the NCOE Cathy Black Invitational and the championship for third straight year of the Benton Classic, where she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
