CARBONDALE — In a matchup of conference unbeatens, Carbondale blanked Marion 4-0 to take over sole possession of first place in the South Seven boys soccer standings.
The Terriers scored off a corner kick in the 13th minute with Clif Magwire-Newcomb scoring again 1:11 later for a 2-0 lead. Max Engel scored in the 35th minute to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead at the half. They added another goal early in the second half for the final margin of victory.
Carbondale improves to 10-1-1 (3-0) on the season. The Terriers are back home Monday to welcome Centralia for another conference matchup.
Marion falls to 4-9 (2-1). The Wildcats’ next action will be Tuesday at home against Mt. Vernon.
