SESSER — For the fifth straight season, the Battle for 148 belongs to Sesser-Valier/Waltonville as the Red Devils clobbered Christopher/Zeigler-Royalton/Elverado 40-6.
For the previous four wins, Mike Rude was on the Red Devils’ sideline. This time, he was on the opposite sideline in his first year as the Bearcats’ head coach.
SVW senior running back Jace Erwin helped set the tone with a 44-yard touchdown run and a 31-yard run to set up another score as the Red Devils jumped out to a 20-0 lead after one quarter and never looked back.
Trace Payne threw a pair of touchdown passes to Kyan Short, and Amiri Rose added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Red Devils, who improve to 3-2 on the season. The Bearcats fall to 2-3.
