Monster nights from Goewey and Bratton lead Centralia rout of Marion

CENTRALIA — Centralia’s super sophs, Archie Goewey and Kenny Bratton, each put up monster nights to lead the Orphans to a 55-28 win over Marion.

Goewey threw for 360 yards and seven touchdowns with Bratton being his favorite target. Bratton tallied seven catches for 147 yards and four of the touchdowns. He also added a pair of interceptions on defense, and returned two kickoffs for 87 yards.

The game started as a shootout between Goewey and Marion senior quarterback Callahan Roper. Goewey and Roper each threw a pair of first quarter touchdown passes, but Mike Brown scored between Goewey touchdowns to give Centralia a 21-14 lead after one.

Goewey threw three second quarter TDs as the Orphans outscored the Wildcats 20-7 to lead 41-20 at the half. He then added two more TD passes in the third quarter helping Centralia extend the lead to 55-20.

Kruz Jackson also had a big night receiving for Centralia with five receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns.

The Orphans improve to 5-1 (2-0) setting up a first place showdown next week at Cahokia (5-1, 3-0). The Wildcats fall to 3-3, 1-2 in the South Seven. The Cats will return home Friday night to host fellow 3-3 Collinsville.
