Roxana High School is at the front of a new IHSA proposal that would expand the football postseason and potentially set up regionals.
The proposal would grow the postseason from 256 teams to 384. 48 teams would qualify for each classification. In 1A thru 6A, the top 8 seeds in both North and South brackets would receive an opening round bye. The top 16 in Class 7A and 8A would receive byes in the first round as well.
Qualifications for the postseason would not change.
The vote for the proposal is expected in mid-December. If it passes, it would go into effect in 2026.
IHSA Football insider Steve Soucie has more on the proposal here.
