Senior Night Special: Carmi-White County clinches outright conference title

CARMI — Led by a group of five seniors, the Carmi-White County Lady Bulldogs swept Edwards County 25-15, 26-24 to clinch the outright Black Diamond East volleyball championship. The Lady Bulldogs ran the table in the conference, finishing 10-0.

Carmi-White County romped through the first game, before the two teams settled into a back and forth second game. Trailing 22-21, the Lady Lions scored three straight points to set up game point, but the Lady Bulldogs fought off the two game points, then took the next two points to complete the victory. The final four points all coming from kills by senior Caroline Simmons.

Carmi-White County improves to 33-2 and now heads to the Hamilton County 2A Regional as the top seed. The Lady Bulldogs will face either Richland County or Flora in the first semifinal Tuesday night.

Edwards County falls to 30-4. The Lady Lions are the top seed in the Thompsonville 1A Regional and will face Galatia in a quarterfinal game Monday night.
