HERRIN — It will be an all-Williamson County championship game at the Herrin 2A Volleyball Regional, after regional top seed Carterville and Herrin both posted three-set semifinal wins.
After splitting the first two games against Anna-Jonesboro, Carterville used a 10-0 run to seize control of the third and decisive set. The Lady Lions advanced with a 25-10, 14-25, 25-13 win.
In the second semifinal, Murphysboro took the opener against the host Tigers 25-21 and had a 13-4 lead in game two, but Herrin rallied. The Tigers went on to win game two 25-22 to force a decisive third game. This time it was Herrin jumping out to a nine-point lead (14-5), and Murphysboro playing catch up. The Red Devils closed to within a point a couple of times, but the Tigers held on to win 25-22.
So it will be SIRR Ohio foes Carterville and Herrin for the regional title Tuesday at 6:00. The winner will advance to next week’s Benton Sectional.
