BENTON — Led by their five seniors, the Carmi-White County Lady Bulldogs captured their third straight volleyball sectional championship, beating Massac County 25-18, 27-25 for the Benton 2A Sectional title.

One of those seniors, Caroline Simmons, came out in beast mode, recording kills on the Lady Bulldogs’ first five points. She finished with 12 kills and three service points in the opening game.

We saw a milestone in game two on another Simmons kill. It came off a set from fellow senior Addie Elliott, her 1000th career assist.

Massac County fought off three match points before Simmons’ kill finished things off for the Lady Bulldogs, who will now advance to Monday’s Shelbyville 2A Supersectional where they will face Bloomington Central Catholic, in a rematch of last year’s Arthur Supersectional won by BCC 25-22, 25-20.

With the win, Carmi-White County has tied the school record for wins and now stands 37-2. Massac County finishes its season 33-6.
