DU QUOIN — In a game that was a full fledged defensive scrum, the Pinckneyville Lady Panthers held Salem to nine second half points and no field goals in the fourth quarter on the way to a 38-26 win in the championship game of the 22nd Lady Indian Tip-Off Classic in Du Quoin.
Pinckneyville’s first Classic title prevented the Lady Wildcats from a three-peat as tournament champions.
Tournament MVP Kendall Cleland led all scorers with 17 points for Pinckneyville. Jordan Kessler scored 11 of her 16 in the first quarter to lead the way for Salem.
Up next, Pinckneyville (4-0) will visit Massac County Tuesday night. Salem (3-1) will also be on the road Tuesday night, paying a visit to Teutopolis.
