CHRISTOPHER — Webber senior Nathaniel Marlow scored 14 of his game high 34 points in the third quarter, as the Trojans ran away from Thompsonville in the second half for a 72-40 win in the opening game of the 51st Christopher Turkey Tournament.
Webber led 18-13 after one quarter, then outscored Thompsonville 45-20 over the second and third quarters to trigger the turbo clock for the fourth quarter.
The Trojans will face fellow Midland Trail Conference member Patoka/Odin in the semifinals after the Warriors held off the host Bearcats 49-40 in the nightcap.
Trailing 26-22 early in the third quarter, Patoka/Odin outscored Christopher 16-2 the rest of the quarter to take a 38-28 lead in the fourth. The Bearcats closed within three points with 3:22 to play on back to back three-pointers from Trevin Skropka and Landon Sveda, but Drew Haines made a couple of key buckets on back to back possessions to give the Warriors some breathing room.
Patoka/Odin’s Lincoln Roberts led all scorers with 22 points. Skropka and Sveda each tallied 12 to lead Christopher.
Tuesday’s opening round game have New Athens taking on Zeigler-Royalton at 6:00 followed by Waltonville and Marissa/Coulterville at 7:30.
