Here are your postseason nominees:
Johnathan Brown, Du Quoin: The senior ran for 76 yards and scored 2 touchdowns and threw for 134 yards and another touchdown in the Indians’ 48-21 win over Carlinville. He threw for 195 yards with 2 touchdowns and added 67 yards rushing in the Indians’ 49-13 loss at Westville.
Jadyn Gerardi, Anna-Jonesboro: The junior finished 25th to medal at the 1A State Cross Country finals, finishing with a time of 17:51.80. Gerardi won medalist honors at the Wesclin 1A Sectional (17:53.99) as well as the Murphysboro 1A Regional (17:59.2).
Gabriel Greer, Marion: The junior finished 2nd by a little more than a second and a half at the 2A State Cross Country finals, finishing with a time of 14:10.07. Earlier, Greer won medalist honors at the Carterville 2A Cross Country Regional with a time 14:33.55 and finished 3rd at the Mattoon Sectional with a time of 14:44.9.
Alex Hall, Massac Co.: The senior scored 4 goals in 3 postseason games. Hall scored both Patriots’ goals in a 2-0 regional semifinal win over Vienna/Goreville, the only goal in the regional championship win over Murphysboro, and another goal in the sectional semifinal loss to Father McGivney.
Parker Helm, Flora: The senior threw 5 touchdowns and kicked 5 extra points in the Wolves’ 42-39 win over Nashville, the first playoff win in school history. Helm then threw 2 touchdowns, kicked 2 extra points, and also booted the game-winning 43-yard field goal in a 17-14 win over Pana in round 2. He ran for a touchdown in the Wolves’ quarterfinal loss at Maroa/Forsyth.
Andrew Johnson, Carterville: The senior threw for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns, ran in a third TD and added 7 tackles in the Lions’ 42-14 win over Alton Marquette. Johnson threw for 151 yards in a second round loss at Sacred Heart Griffin.
Aubrey Knight, NCOE: The senior was named to the 1A All-Tournament team at state after recording 23 kills in two matches, including 17 kills in the Fighting Cardinals’ 3rd place win over Tremont.
Caroline Simmons, Carmi-White Co.: The senior tallied 73 kills, 11 assists, 51 digs, and 8 aces over 5 matches to help the Lady Bulldogs win their third straight sectional and advance to their third straight supersectional. Simmons finished her career with 1664 kills, which is 9th on the IHSA’s all-time list. She also finished with 1000 career digs.
Jace Weaver, Johnston City: The senior ran for 129 yards and a touchdown in the Indians’ 38-25 win over Wesclin. He rushed for 24 yards in the 41-6 loss at Maroa-Forsyth.
