ELKVILLE — Sporting a bright orange blazer that would’ve made former Illini head coach Lou Henson proud, first year Crab Orchard head coach Tyler Hatton watched his Trojans use a big second half surge to beat Galatia 64-53 to wrap up a 3-0 and take home the Elverado Turkey Tournament title.
Crab Orchard led 26-19 at the half before outscoring the Bearcats 22-12 in the third quarter to take a 48-31 lead to the fourth. That lead grew to as many as 21 as the Trojans cruised to victory.
Crab Orchard used a balanced attack, putting four in double figures led by Brayden Mausey’s 17 points. Dawson Poland added 14, Noah Kennedy 13 and Brody Watts 10. Isiah Plumlee led Galatia with 13 points with Will Puckett adding 12 and Colin Jenkins 10.
Kennedy and Puckett along with Sandoval’s Josh Gordon, Elverado’s Frankie Guerra, Cairo’s Ja’Kwon McAllister, and Johnston City’s Trey Johnson made up the All-Tournament Team.
