
The Waltonville Spartans were the big winners of the past week of high school basketball. The Spartans pulled off a 53-37 upset win over the Carterville Lions on Saturday at the Illinois Get Down hosted by Carbondale. That victory sprung the Spartans up from #8 to #6 and knocking on the door of the top five of the John A. Logan College SI Basketball Poll with a big game at #3 Woodlawn this Friday night.
Remaining as the unanimous top team in Southern Illinois, the Centralia Orphans are 9-0 and received all 12 of this week’s first place votes.
They remain at the top thanks to a win over the Mt. Vernon Rams who slide back from #2 to #3, tying with Jefferson County compatriot Woodlawn.
The Carterville Lions had the biggest slide of the week. They dropped from #6 to #10 following their loss to Waltonville.
