COBDEN — Cobden will be keeping the Appleknocker Holiday Tournament title at home this year after rallying from a 15-point halftime deficit to beat Cairo 53-50.
The Pilots outscored the Appleknockers 19-4 in the second quarter to take a 32-17 lead into halftime. After making only one field goal the entire second quarter, Cobden hit a pair of three-pointers in the first 40 seconds of the third quarter, both courtesy Kyler White, to cut Cairo’s lead to nine. White scored 18 of his game high 22 points in the second half.
After the Pilots pushed the lead back to 14 at 40-26, the Appleknockers went on a massive 22-2 run over the the end of the third and start of the fourth quarters to grab a 48-42 lead.
Cairo battled back and had a chance to tie in the closing seconds but could not get a shot off.
White was named Tournament MVP. He led all scorers with 22 points, 18 of those coming in the second half. Kingston Kuhn added 17 for Cobden. Rahjon Woodson led the Pilots with 17, with Jakwon McAllister adding 15.
