COLLINSVILLE — Unbeaten Decatur MacArthur built a huge first half lead and cruised to the championship of the Collinsville Prairie Farms Holiday Classic with a 61-32 win over Mt. Vernon.

The Generals stormed out to a 20-11 lead after one quarter, then put the game away by closing the first half on a 16-1 run to lead 40-14 at halftime.

Khymir Carson led MacArthur (11-0) with 17 points on his way to picking up Tournament MVP honors. Dave Barnes led the Rams with 16. He was named to the All-Tournament Team, as was Cale Maurer, who was in street clothes and walking boot on then bench for the championship game after suffering an injury in Mt. Vernon’s semifinal win over McCluer North. The Rams were already missing senior guard Kaden Wilson, who’s been out since early December.

Mt. Vernon falls to 10-2 with a home non-conference game against Herrin set for Friday night and a road South Seven game at Cahokia Saturday night.
