PINCKNEYVILLE — The Carterville Lions used a huge third quarter to break open a close game at Pinckneyville on the way to a 72-64 win over the Panthers.
Carterville led 31-28 at the half then outscored Pinckneyville 26-12 in the third to lead 57-40 heading to the fourth quarter. The Panthers rallied in the final frame and got as close as four before falling by eight.
The Lions improve to 16-2 on the season. They will be back in action Tuesday night at home against Carbondale. The Panthers fall to 10-8. They will also be back in action Tuesday night at Herrin.
