The Nashville Hornets leapfrogged the Carterville Lions in this week’s John A. Logan College SI Basketball Poll after the Lions suffered a loss to Massac County on Friday night while the Hornets picked up wins against Pinckneyville and Carlyle over the weekend.

The Centralia Orphans remain the unanimous #1 team in the region with wins over Carbondale and Mascoutah last weekend.

The Woodlawn Cardinals took the biggest tumble in the past week; the Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season at Webber on January 6 before losing at Altamont this past Saturday.  Woodlawn now sits in a tie for #6 with Marion.

The Murphysboro Red Devils reentered the Top 10 this week, bumping Benton out, after an impressive outing against #2 Mt. Vernon on Saturday night.  The Red Devils forced overtime against the Rams and nearly forced double overtime before Mt. Vernon escaped Murphysboro with the win.  That performance impressed enough voters to get the Red Devils back in to the Top 10.
