HERRIN — The Benton Rangerettes removed any suspense from the Herrin 2A Regional championship game with a dominant first half on the way to a 49-21 win over West Frankfort.
Benton built a 20-6 lead after one quarter and outscored the Lady Redbirds 15-3 in the second quarter to lead 35-9 at the half.
Madelyn Roundcount led the Rangerettes’ attack with 19 points. Kinley Glover just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Benton improves to 26-7 on the season and now advances to the Chester Sectional. The Rangerettes will face Breese Central in the first sectional semifinal Tuesday night at 6:00.
West Frankfort finishes the season 15-18.
