WAYNE CITY — It will be Brownstown/St. Elmo and Edwards County battling for the Wayne City Girls 1A Sectional championship, after both posted convincing semifinal victories.
The Bombers jumped out to a 15-3 lead on Christopher and never looked back, winning 46-25. BSE’s Dayana Haslett led all scorers with 19 points. Londynn Pontious led Christopher with 11.
The second semifinal was a matchup of Black Diamond Conference champions as west co-champ Sesser-Valier/Waltonville met east champ Edwards County.
Much like BSE in the opener, Edwards County came flying out of the gates. The Lions built and 21-4 lead and cruised to a 62-41 win.
Edwards County was led by Grace Bishop who poured in a game high 24 points. Lola Nussmeyer added 14. Zevon Zimbro paced SVW with 14.
Tip off the sectional championship game is set for 6:30 Thursday night. The winner will advance to Monday’s Arcola Supersectional.
