MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon is searching for new boys and girls head basketball coaches after the resignations of Tim Holloway and Jeff Lonnon. The school posted the jobs on social media Tuesday afternoon.

The Rams were 118-52 with three regional championships in Holloway’s six seasons as head basketball coach. Holloway had previously won 383 games in 17 seasons as the Rams’ head baseball coach from 2005-2022. He is a 1994 MVTHS alum and was inducted to the Rams’ Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
In a statement, Holloway said “I wanted to use my experiences to give back, and I am thankful for the opportunities I have had to do that. It has been a privilege to work with the athletes and coaches at MVTHS as well as the youth level for the past 27 years. There are too many coaches to list them all, but I would like to thank Quinn McClure, who I spent my career coaching with. I couldn’t have coached this long without my wonderful wife and supportive family who made sacrifices so I could give my best to our teams.”
The Lady Rams were 257-219 with five regional championships and a sectional title in Lonnon’s 17 seasons as head coach. Lonnon has 424 career wins, having coached at Anna-Jonesboro, Edwards County, and Benton prior to coming to Mt. Vernon. He will be inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame May 2.
