
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Junior Sydney Potter of the Southern Illinois University softball team has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Potter hit two home runs and had six RBI, three runs scored, one double, and a .909 slugging percentage during SIU’s three-game sweep of Indiana State.
The junior homered in games one and three, with her first of the week being a three-run shot in the third inning on Sunday.
Two games later, Potter launched a two-run home run in the first inning of game three to give Southern Illinois a 2-0 lead. The homer was the catcher’s 16th of the season, putting her one away from tying the single-season program record.
This is the second time this season Potter has earned weekly honors from the conference. The junior was named the MVC Player and Newcomer of the Week on Feb. 10.
