MT. VERNON — The Mt. Vernon Rams have found their next boys head basketball coach, and they did not have to leave the county to find him. After four seasons as the head coach at Woodlawn, Luke Cooper will head eight miles to the east next year to lead the Rams.

Cooper was 70-57 in those four years as the Cardinals’ head coach, including 29-4 this past season. He replaces Tim Holloway, who resigned last month after winning 118 games the previous six seasons.
For Cooper it’s a homecoming, as the 2019 MVTHS graduate returns to be the head coach at his alma mater.
In other news from Thursday night’s school board meeting, Mt. Vernon hired Travis Pinkston to be the next girls basketball head coach. Pinkston follows Jeff Lonnon who retired after 17 seasons as head coach of the Lady Rams.

The board also hired Ashley Mast to be the Lady Rams’ next head volleyball coach, replacing Madison Crews.
