MURPHYSBORO — Murphysboro High School opened its doors to the brand new Red Devil Arena Monday night.
During an open house, people had a chance to check out the nearly completed facility. The gym will seat more than 2300, including a chair seats, mezzanine couch lounges, and barstools. The Crimson Express band has its new home a level above the student section. There are video boards in each of the four corners.
The school’s building committee visited other gyms including as far away as Kentucky to give Dodd Architects a basis for the new facility.
The project also featured a new weight room, a four-lane mondo track, a golf simulator, area for batting cages, and a dance studio which school officials say will not only be a big boost for the athletes, but also students for PE and other programs.
