MARION — Southern Illinois rallied from 3-0 and 4-2 deficits to down Tijuana, Mexico in the opening game of the Colt World Series for both teams.
Trailing 4-2 in the fifth inning, Goreville’s Lathan Parrish blooped a bases loaded single down the the left field line to plate a pair, tying the game 4-4. Southern Illinois took the lead on a fielder’s choice then added to it on an RBI single from Wesclin’s Lucas Harriss to score courtesy runner Cal Dunning.
Sparta’s Owen Kueker then came on in relief and shut Mexico down the rest of the way, allowing only one hit over three innings while striking out four to pick up the win.
Southern Illinois will now face Harlingen, Texas Saturday at 8:00. The game will be played at Oasis due to the season finale for the Thrillbillies at Mtn Dew Park.
