MURPHYSBORO — Sophomore Drake Porter accounted for five touchdowns to help Benton improve to 5-0 with a 42-7 win at Murphysboro.
Porter had three rushing touchdowns, a passing touchdown, and also returned the third quarter opening kickoff 86 yards for another touchdown.
The Rangers gave up their first points of the season as Murphysboro scored on a 78-yard fake punt in the fourth quarter. Benton has outscored its opponents 174-7 through three games.
It’s onto conference play for both teams next week. The Red Devils will open SIRR Ohio play at home against Massac County. The Rangers will also be home to open SIRR Mississippi play against another 3-0 team, Du Quoin.
